FOR THE ATTENTION OF ALL OWNERS AND GUARDIANS OF iPAD SP1 DEFIBRILLATORS (pictured)

Stocksfield Parish Council in Northumberland has been working with WEL Medical in relation to the maintenance of older batteries (see link below) which are fitted to iPAD SP1 defibrillators, following the sudden reduction of a defibrillator battery from full charge to flat within six days. The defibrillator battery was nearly six years old but its sudden apparent failure has caused the Council some concern.

WEL Medical has produced the following information for all owners and guardians of this particular automated external defibrillator (AED) and the Council strongly advises that its content is read and followed.

Is your iPAD AED battery over 4 years old?

If it is, you are likely to need a new one very soon. Please see below for how to check your battery, and for our special offer on replacement batteries and pads.

The ‘Winter Care Information’ gives you general advice about ensuring that your iPAD AED is working perfectly during the winter months, however if your battery has been in your AED for 4 years or more, the chances are that you either need a new one now, or you will do very soon.

There are many factors that can affect battery life, therefore if you believe that your battery has been in your AED for 4 years, or if your AED has been used, we recommend that you carry out the following simple test in addition to checking the battery meter.

  1. Remove iPAD SP1 from orange carry case
  2. Remove battery from slot on the left side of the AED
  3. Replace the battery into well – while monitoring the battery meter on the LCD screen.
  4. If the battery meter on the LCD screen momentarily drops to one bar or lower and then returns to a full battery, then your battery may have been affected by cold weather and needs to be replaced.

If your battery needs replacing, is under 4 years old and if the AED has not been used in a rescue, we will replace the battery free-of-charge under warranty. Please note that this is 4 years from the date that you received the battery, not 4 years from the manufacturing date shown on the battery.
