Police are advising all residents of Northumberland to be on their guard after an elderly resident of Pegswood was visited by two workmen last week. They offered to carry out work at the property and after undertaking some guttering work, the resident was charged and paid a significant sum of money.
The message is simple - don't agree to work by people who turn up at your house unexpected. Don't let them in. Genuine callers will not mind being asked to return to verify who they are or to arrange for a friend or relative to be there. There is more information about the descriptions of the offenders here.
Importantly, this resident appears to have targetted because of their age. Please think about your neighbours. If you think they would be at risk in these circumstances, please take time to speak to them. Let them know what they should do, so that they don't fall victim to the fraudsters.
